I don't exactly remember if I've read all the books in English or not, but I think so because I guess I own them all in English... Except for maybe one book as I don't remember if I have Goblet of Fire in English. However, if I don't, I'll buy it some day as well. I've bought the second and the third books in English quite recently, though I had read them before in both languages, English and Finnish. I don't even own the Finnish translations of them as I only have the copies Goblet of Fire, Order of the Phoenix and Half-Blooded Prince in my mother tongue. I also have The Tales of Beedle the Bard and Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them in their initial language. I've also read the one mentioned second in Finnish but that was ages ago.
Finnish translations are quite clever, yes, and as I've read tons of translated books I've got to say Kapari-Jatta has made really great work with them. Many of the translated books they've got out there, have been either written very poorly or translated just plain terribly. I really don't get why the qualified translators aren't hired to do the job. And if all that crap I've read or tried to read before quitting in complete frustration and searching the book in it's original language (if I just happen to understand it, that is - if I don't, I usually find English translation if the Finnish one is something completely unreadable), if all that has been done by people who translate for the trade, then I'm really worried about the level of the quality of Finnish translation scene.
I have only one of the movies on dvd and I'm not sure if I'm ever going to buy more. I've got HPB because I got it for Christmas a couple of years ago and actually it was quite good movie, even thinking of movies in general and not comparing it in other Potters. Actually the last movie they made was also quite good. It could have been better and there were some things disturbing me but outright it was quite nice. I've watched all of the Harry Potter movies made so far and when the first one came out I liked it. However, when I watched them again some time later, I didn't find them that good anymore. A thing to mention, I didn't watch the movies when they were brand new, as I started to read the books first and the book I started with was the fourth one. I got it by accident, I guess I won it from some kind of contest or something. I can't call it to my mind, I just remember reading the book outside our cowshed, lying on the scaffoldings while dad painted the building.
